This book worked for me

I thought I'd be the first to give a review. I liked the book a lot. It was short and to the point here are some highlights.
- The book isn't a full content review of everything that you are supposed to know for the Math 2 exam. As the author correctly notes, you should study from a precalculus textbook because the exam is basically your precalc class.
- The book only covers topics that will RAISE YOUR SCORE.
- The main part of that is the 25 question types (which I actually saw on the real Math 2 exam so I can say this part is legit).
- There are also test taking and study hints, nothing groundbreaking here but still helpful

Overall, I would say this book is definitely worth the $5 for kindle because my score jumped 40 points from the practice tests (760 avg) and I got an 800 on the exam. Can't really ask for much more than that.

Yoram Dinstein is a Member of the Institut de Droit International and a Professor Emeritus at Tel-Aviv University. He is a former President of the University (1991-9), as well as former Rector and former Dean of the Faculty of Law. He served twice as the Stockton Professor of International Law at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Outstanding even if outdated.

Although this book is about 20 years old and to my knowledge has not been released in an updated edition it is an excellent reference and still quite valid. I have Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism by Groff and Nutritional Biochemistry, by Brody, but I still prefer to refer to this book. So if you don't want to spend and exhorbitant amount of money and don't need the latest research which to some extent you can do yourself on the web, then look no further. You can pick this book up for less than $10.

The most influential book of my entire life

Nutritional Biochemistry, edited by Dr. M. Linder is an influential textbook. Some time ago, this book was provided to me for teaching a class of upper division students and graduate students in the field of nutrition. All of the students purchased this book. However, during the first week of teaching, it was apparent to me that the book was failing as a teaching device. The writing is clumsy. For example, concepts in metabolism are set forth by complicated diagrams with many arrows. These diagrams almost resemble topographical maps of mountain ranges. The Linder book is not alone in having this fault of attempting to "teach" a biochemical pathway by way of a complex diagram taking the form of multi-branched flow chart with ten to twenty arrows. Thus, my critique regarding this textbook "teaching" device is a general one.

Also, I noticed that many of the "facts" about chemistry, enzymology, metabolic pathways, regulation, and so on, were not correct. To reiterate this point, it is the case that the Linder book is filled with errors. And so, by the end of the week, I told my students that they could return the Linder book to the campus bookstore.

As a consequence, for each of the subsequent lectures for my course, I was forced to scramble for twelve solid hours to prepare each 1-hour lecture, and to draft accompanying handouts for my class. At the end of the semester, I had 400 pages of handouts. I submitted these to several publishers and my efforts were rewarded with contracts from three different publishing companies. I chose the best one (Academic Press). To make a long story short, a first edition and also a second edition of my nutrition book was published. And so, it can be seen that the Linder book turned out to be the most influential book in my life.

This is the first book on astrology that I ever got so I can't say if the information was accurate or even relevant. After getting my natal chart online I went into the book and found out some decent information on me and my roommates. The truth is I would have liked to find out more, like what to do with this info. How will my Sun, Moon, Mars, and Venus aid me in relationships? How will it challenge me especially compared to another sign and where their planets are. So although I found this book enjoyable and it got me interested in astrology a little more, I do feel like the author should of done more with the book itself. It think this is a decent coffee table book, but not something I'd go to for real information. I could say that it rung true for me, but there are probably better books out there.

This is a great book if you've dabbled in Astrology and at least know what signs your planets are in. The detailed descriptions of this book are very insightful, and give a clear feel of the energy and intensity of each planet throughout the various signs.

Awful Amazon Kindle Quality - Great Book

This is a great title to read if you are interested in Gay Telese. However, be wary of the kindle edition that Amazon is selling here. It is so loaded with typos that the end of chapter 7 can be unreadable. I found myself having to infer the words the author had originally written. The fact that Amazon is charging $10 for this quality is a total rip off. Do yourself a favor and buy a used paper copy of the book for far cheaper so you can read it as the author intended. Support any used/local book seller over Amazon.

Simple story of things larger than life

In "The Bridge", Gay Talese tells the story of the men behind the scenes, the men who do the dirty work in bridge-building (as well as other city building projects) without the recognition, the speeches, or the parades. Talese centers the story around the construction of the Verrazano Bridge in New York, one of the world's largest and most impressive pieces of architecture built by some of the world's bravest and least heralded men.

You can tell that Talese spent a great deal of time with these men, their families, and the people most affected by the Verrazano's construction in the 1960's -- the residents of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Most of the book is a collection of anecdotes focusing on the life of a "boomer", in which bridgebuilding and ironworking is seemingly passed down from generation to generation; the outrage in Brooklyn over the condemnation of hundreds of homes and businesses, who these Brooklynites were and where they went; the Indians who drove home to the Canadian border on weekends to see their families before leaving Sunday night to drive back down to the job; and so on.

Talese sheds a sufficient amount of light on the actual bridge construction, as well as some history and the famous designer, Othmar Ammann. He conveys perfectly the emotional ties people have to the bridge (both positive and negative), the almost magnetic pull the work has to those men who have building in their blood, and the "fever" they experience when the job is done. You'll never have heard of these men before, because they're gone to the next job by the time the final touches are put on, and only the politcians and designers find their names in print or smile for the cameras. It's a story of human emotion and accomplishment, and of a very proud fraternity of men, that Talese tells skillfully.

Its All About the People

My Uncle was a "boomer." I never understood that much of his life when I was a kid growing up. He would roll into town in his big car with all of his clothing hanging from a rod across the back seat. He was a big man and a drinker and a whiz at poker, pool, and any game of chance. I never understood my Uncle then. He respected his older sister, my Mother, and was always at odds with my Father. He had part of his wages sent to my Mother to hold for him so he wouldn't spend it all. After reading "The Bridge" I understand my Uncle a little better.

While it is a story of the bridge, it is more a story of the people that created the bridge - from those that planned it, designed it, gave up their homes for it, those that built it, and those that maintain it.

It is one of the finest books that I have read - a treasure from start to finish.

For a lawyer, naive view of how justice system works.

The story itself is above average, and the author's writing skills are also above average.

What is disconcerting are the reviews which state that the author, because of his legal background, has written a realistic novel. That is far from the truth.

First, the district attorney's office does not investigate crimes. That is done through the police or sheriffs office which have an investigative division comprised of detectives in conjunction with the medical examiner and the forensics team.

Secondly, a emergency room physician would not admit an adolescent patient to the peds unit, he or she would have to call in a pediatrician with admitting previleges to do that.

And that is just in the first couple chapters. I could go on and on.

If you're looking for a good story well written, this book fits that bill, just do be fooled into thinking that the author has presented a realistic view of anything.

Great book. It has great insight on the nutritional value of vitamin C and other vitamins for dogs and really gives an alternative to drugs and vaccines that some people may not want to give their animals. Makes you really consider how much stress your dog is under in our modern, urban environment.

Never enough Locke

Teacher Teacher is a treasure. A jewel. An unexpected gem in the midst of this dreary winter. I have yet to read one of Mr. Locke's novels and not fall in love with his characters. Now that could mean I have the same twisted, sarcastic wit. Which is a very wonderful thing. Miss Conroy is precious, and Dani is quickly becoming my favorite character. The sensitive subject matter is handled in only a way JPL could do it, as I kept laughing throughout the entire book.

I tried to pace myself, but it never works. I finished within hours. Thanks Big Guy - Another winner!

The modern consumer electronics industry as we know it owes much of its success and popularity to two technologies: the ARM processor and the Linux operating system. ARM processor technology powers nearly all modern mobile devices―and most of these processors run the Linux operating system. It’s no exaggeration to say that having an understanding of embedded system design and development from the context of ARM and Linux technology is an important asset in today’s world.

This textbook combines an exploration of the ARM architecture with an examination of the facilities offered by the Linux operating system to explain how various features of program design can influence processor performance. It demonstrates methods by which a programmer can make changes to code without changing program semantics, but have a significant impact on code performance. Several applications, including image transformations, fractal generation, image convolution, and computer vision tasks, are used to describe and demonstrate these methods. From this, the reader will gain insight into computer architecture and application design, as well as gain practical knowledge in the area of embedded software design for modern embedded systems.

About the Author
Jason D. Bakos is an associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Carolina. He received a BS in Computer Science from Youngstown State University in 1999 and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Dr. Bakos’s research focuses on mapping data- and compute-intensive codes to high-performance, heterogeneous, reconfigurable, and embedded computer systems. His group works closely with FPGA-based computer manufacturers Convey Computer Corporation, GiDEL, and Annapolis Micro Systems, as well as GPU and DSP manufacturers NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, and Advantech. Dr. Bakos holds two patents, has published over 30 refereed publications in computer architecture and high performance computing, was a winner of the ACM/DAC student design contest in 2002 and 2004, and received the US National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in 2009. He is currently serving as associate editor for ACM Transactions on Reconfigurable Technology and Systems.

Great book and great study!

I bought this book alongside a raspberry-pi 2 B in order to practice. The presentation is very clear and systematic. I bought the book because I write software for embedded systems (firmware), but do not have enough knowledge or experience about embedded systems. I showed it to a colleague (with vast experience in writing firmware) and he liked it a lot. The book is oriented towards ARM processors which are everywhere, and Raspberry Pi as a platform to try the code. Most embedded HW uses CPUs designed by ARM, making knowledge of programming for ARM very practical. The book covers several code optimizations, including writing in assembly, parallelizing the code using OpenMP (openmp is useful for non-ARM projects as well) and Neon. It does not matter if you are a young engineer or a seasoned one, This is the book for self study.
